Nathan

Nathan wasn’t born when he was supposed to be.  He wasn’t on time.

Only he wasn’t late…he was early.

He made his entrance into this world almost a full month before he was scheduled to.

What this meant for me was that instead of shooting his newborn session at 6-8 days like I usually do, I shot it at 19 days…and he was still the smallest newborn I’ve ever worked with.  When I came to take his picture, he should have still been inside his mother.  Which is a strange concept to grasp.

But what this all really boils down to…is that Nathan is a miracle.  A beautiful miracle.  Newborn sessions always lead me to this conclusion.  But Nathan is so small and so perfect and he’s been through so much more than most 19 day olds have.

I felt lucky to be there with him…holding him, soothing him, capturing these sweet moments.  Nathan’s parents are so blessed to have this healthy, happy baby boy…

and I am so happy that they will always have these pictures to remember the sweetness and beauty of those first days.

Paul, Elaine & Elliott

These photographs are from a Christmas Card/Maternity session that I did with my brother, Paul, and my sister-in-law, Elaine. I love these so much. My family and I keep talking about how happy my brother is right now.  He’s married to his best friend and his first child, Elliott, was born last month.  They both have jobs that they love, a beautiful home and great family and friends surrounding them. The happiness is contagious whenever you’re anywhere around them. I think that the happiness in these photos is contagious as well.

And these are from the session that I did with Elliott, my Brooksie, when he was 10 days old.

Here’s hoping that you have this kind of joy in your life.  Every day.

Until then, if you’re expecting, please let me know so that I can help you capture these precious moments.

This Rehearsal Dinner was my first experience with event photography. I really enjoyed myself, although the candids are much more my style than the coctail hour poses. I got tired of saying, “would y’all get together for me?” really quickly. But I’m really happy with the way that these turned out and am looking forward to my next event.

These are my favorites. I love rehearsal dinners, especially the toasts. Everyone is relaxed and enjoying the company before the nerves and rush of the wedding day begins…

Congratulations!

Burton and Carter

Hi Everybody, I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying this beautiful weather we’ve been having!

I want to share some pictures I took this week of my sister, Burton, who is expecting her first baby in June. It’s a boy, my nephew, Carter.

There’s not much I can say about these pictures…my sister is my best friend and Carter is the first grandchild in our family. I will say that Burton has never looked more beautiful to me than she does in these pictures.

I’ll be sharing some photography I did at a beautiful rehearsal dinner last weekend soon. Until then, here’s wishing you the kind of love that can only be shared between sisters. And here’s to my nephew.

Welcome to it.

I hope this update finds you all doing well. I wanted to tell you something that I am really looking forward to…

My last post was about my friend, Cynthia, and her sweet baby girl, Halle, who is expected to join us sometime in early May. Well, Cynthia and John have asked me to be in the delivery room with them on the big day. I can’t tell you how honored I am and how truly excited I am about it. I’m still not sure about all of the logistics, I imagine it differs hospital to hospital, but I will work all of that out. Just the opportunity to capture the very first moments of Halle’s life will be so amazing, I cannot wait!

If you or someone you know is interested in maternity/newborn photography, please contact me for more information!

Here’s hoping that wherever you are it is as beautiful a day as it is here…

Cynthia, John, Parker and Halle

Cynthia and I first met back in 1998. We were in the 7th grade.

We quickly became inseparable to an annoying degree…

We remained best friends through highschool, and while we did drift apart during college, the wonder of Facebook (hey, have you “liked” Brooks Wilder Photography, yet?) brought us back together shortly after the birth of her son, Parker.

Well, she’s pregnant again, and it only seems fitting that she (and Halle) would be the first takers for my First Year of Life Package.

For a discounted price, you can book 4 sessions with us. The 4 sessions include a maternity session, newborn (4-6 weeks) portaits, 6 month portraits, and a 1st birthday session.

This session did what most of my sessions have done for me…further convinced me that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

There is a lot of love wrapped up in these photographs.

I can’t wait until May when I can introduce you to Halle.

Until then, here’s wishing you frienships that stretch across decades…
