Family Christmas
I loved being asked to do this photo session.
I suppose this doesn’t set me too far apart from the rest of you, really, but being surrounded by family is my favorite part of the holidays.
Barbara called and asked me to take these pictures because she was going to be surrounded by her family for the holidays.
So I set out to capture these photographs on the day after Christmas, and unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, (this actually was the first day in about 10 years I think that I have seen snow flurries in Florida.)
So we were forced to stay indoors, and this was my first session done completely inside. I had my tri-pod, which is a must, and I am pretty happy with the shots that I got. It was tricky with the lighting indoors, (which wasn’t helped by the cloudy conditions outside,) but I actually like the affect.
They feel soft and warm to me, which is how being surrounded by your family at the holidays should feel, right?
Here’s hoping your holiday photographs are soft and warm.
Merry Christmas!
Andy, Jesse, Neve and Sam.
I have been so excited about posting these pictures. I LOVE this family.
But first, a backstory…
Hope Haven Children’s Clinic and Family Center is a non-profit organization which specializes in serving young adults and families with a variety of educational and mental health needs, (autism, Down syndrome, etc…)
(You can learn more about Hope Haven @ hopehaven.org)
For the last few years I have donated some of my handcrafted jewelry to their annual silent auction. This year, however, I donated a photography session.
Jesse and Andy were the big winners…and these are their photographs!
I LOVED this photo session. It was my first time photographing strangers and when I look back at the pictures I can tell that we were strangers in the first few shots…
But it did not take long for us all to become acquainted and warm up to eachother. There is a lot of love in this family, and I really loved being able to spend this time with them. I’m learning how lucky I am to capture these moments more and more everyday.
Who couldn’t use a little more exposure (photography pun!) to love?
I love the sibling love in these…they were very sweet together.
And I think Neve might have a little modeling in her future…the camera loves her.
Thanks, guys!
Ellie Rose and Andrew (and Mom and Dad, too.)
Drew and Ellie Rose
I had so much fun with this photo session and it it also turned out to be a really valuable learning experience for me.
To begin with, Drew and Ellie’s mom was so helpful. She had a lot of really great ideas that I would not have thought of on my own. She also knew about this great historical park on the river that I have never heard of before.
I’ll admit that when we drove up, I either thought that it was a really bad idea or that we were not in the right place. We had to park down by a boat ramp where a lot of rather gruff fisherman were coming and going. So here two women climb out of a car with two small children, several fancy outfit changes, and balloons…
Once we walked in a little further though, it turned out to be really perfect…big house with a great old wrap-around porch, cool old barn, riverfront access, etc., etc., etc. I will definitely be recommending this venue to future clients.
I really feel like each photo session is getting easier for me. I’m turning up with more and more keepers to edit, which is great, but it’s also teaching me how long it can take to get these photo sessions edited. So, I’m still learning but I’m loving this more every day that I do it.
I’m really proud of these pictures, like I said it was a great learning experience for me.
We did a second session with Drew and Ellie plus Mom and Dad…the best of that session coming soon…
We did these portraits for Ellie’s 4th birthday, and Drew’s 3rd, (count the balloons…)
I love the balloons. I love the splashes of color they add…
Definitely my favorite…
We also did some Thanksgiving portraits…

Here is our first video…
Thanks Margaret, Price and Miller!
Mia and Lucy
I mentioned in my first post that there would be so many people I would have to thank as this journey unfolds…
This week I want to thank the family that I have been nannying for since I graduated from college. Not just for giving me my first job…but for letting me use your beautiful girls to practice my photography on for the past two years.
I love you all so much.
This week we took Mia and Lucy to the Pumpkin Patch, and I just wanted to share a few of the shots that I took. They are such beautiful girls.
Today I’m going to drive around town looking for places to include on our Possible Venues page on the website. Looking forward to visiting the most beautiful places in the city.
I hope it’s as beautiful a day wherever you are as it is here!
